Cruising in 2022

For my winter vacation, I joined my aunt and her Atlanta book club friends for fun onboard Carnival Cruise line. We are traveling to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Nassau, Bahamas. This is my second cruise I’ve ever taken since 2014 and I was excited to hop aboard!

The first big change I’ve noticed, is of course, the mask mandate. And yes, they do enforce the mask rule unless you are eating/drinking or relaxing in the pool. The crew carries around masks to hand out to those who are not wearing their masks in common areas. COVID has also reduced the amount of passengers onboard the ship for social distancing. I’m pretty sure there is half of the amount of individuals from cruising in 2014. We boarded and noticed how “empty” it was. I am not mad about that, at all. I honestly feel more comfortable being on board versus rubbing shoulders with a bunch of random strangers.

Onboard, there are so many things for you to do, from morning to midnight. Right now, I am watching my aunt and her friends gamble in the casino (I am their cheerleader) and I cannot tell I am on a ship. There’s entertainment, games, child activities, bars, nightclub, fitness center and everything you can imagine. The crew makes the experience amazing! Everyone is friendly and readily available to assist you with whatever you may need. A cool fact about the crew is you can read their name tags and discover where they are from since they are on this ship for months at a time!

Dunn River Fall, Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Our five day cruise made two stops. First, Ocho Rios, Jamaica and then Nassau, Bahamas. Both destinations were beyond beautiful with warm weather, perfect for the beach and sun dresses! The food and drinks were amazing! Try the rum punch, you won’t regret it. There are many excursions to purchase such as jet skis, beach horse back riding and party boats. If you’re on a budget, you don’t have to do anything but explore the beautiful island. I suggest packing comfortable shoes as well, all of the walking you must do will tire you out.

Overall, my trip was wonderful. I enjoyed my five days out at sea without a responsibility in the world. I was happy to have met so many great individuals and crew members aboard the ship. “Cheerio!”

Nassau, Bahamas Port

I’ve only seen a light house in movies. I thought this is was so cool!
